We begin the story with the sixteen year old, Amuba, the son of a king from Rebu, being taken captive from his home country and taken to Thebes, Egypt. His mentor, Jethro, stays faithfully by his side the whole way. Along the way, Amuba, begins to understand the Egyptian language. By the time he arrives in Thebes, he is able to understand and speak the Egyptian language. In Egypt, Amuba and Jethro are taken to the largest temple. There Ameres, a priest, realizes that Amuba can understand his language. He decides to take Amuba to be his servant. Amuba then petitions Ameres to allow Jethro to be his servant as well.

Ameres has Amuba become a servant of his son, Chebron. Ameres comes to learn that Amuba is a prince from a foreign land. Although he tells Chebron, he insists that no one else may ever know that Amuba is a prince for his own safety.

Jethro continued to faithfully mentor Amuba and now Chebron. Teaching them many things including how to shoot a bow. When a hawk begins to attack the ducks and other fowl, Amuba and Chebron come up with a plan to get rid of it. When most of the family and many of the servants leave to go to the farm, the boys decide it is the right time to get rid of the hawk. With bows and arrows in hand they wait for the opportune time to kill it. However, Chebron’s arrow misses it’s mark when it hits a branch, instead it goes into the cat house. To their dismay, they realize that the sacred cat, Paucis, was hit by the arrow.

When the sacred cat is accidentally shot the boys fear what will happen to them. They fear that their very lives are at stake and for good reason as killing a cat was an offense punishable by death! Cats were highly regarded in Ancient Egypt and the death of a sacred cat brought about a “black cloud” over the family.

Another priest, who has long resented Ameres begins to plot his demise. Will he be successful? Will Chebron’s accidental killing of the cat be discovered?

We have really enjoyed this latest production from Heirloom Audio! It is so hard to say which has been our favorite as each of their audio dramas are so good! I really encourage you to bring life and adventure to your history studies by adding audio dramas from Heirloom Audio to your school or home! It is so easy to bring history to life and really dig deeper with the Study and Discussion Guide that makes up one part of the bonus features. As always, this guide is a great resource for helping your students to dig deeper into the story. Each of the tracks have an accompanying “Listening Well”, “Thinking Further”, and “Defining Words” which help the student get the most out of the audio drama. There is also a Bible study included in the Study and Discussion Guide. The three part Bible study includes: God Meant it for Good, The Knowledge of God, and Idolatry and Tyranny.

In the past, we have reviewed other audio dramas from Heirloom Audio Productions including: In Freedom’s Cause, With Lee in Virginia, The Dragon and the Raven, and Beric the Briton.
