We have been harvesting our sweet potatoes a few at a time for the past few weeks. We have had one frost but instead of digging all of them I just covered the plants with old blankets to protect them. Most of the sweet potatoes have been fairly large but many of them have been UGLY.
I am attributing the misshapen, ugly sweet potatoes to the abundant fall rain we had late in the season. I think the potatoes grew exceptionally fast which led to the cracks.
I’m concerned that they might not store as well so I am planning to can those potatoes that are cracked the worst. Even if the sweet potatoes are quite ugly, they taste DELICIOUS! We’ve been enjoying them baked, fried and boiled.

This is the UGLIEST sweet potato I have ever raised!!
Blessings,
Jennifer
