All Around the Home and Homestead #49

Happy Monday!

This past week, we finished the new apple press! I’m a little bit excited about that! Before it started freezing, we had picked several boxes of pears and apples so that we could juice them once we got the press done. I wish it would have been finished sooner so we would have been able to get more juice made but I am thankful for the juice we got!

Thinking Like an Engineer ~ Review

Are you looking for a great hands-on class that introduces Engineering in a really fun, engaging way? Maybe you are like me and didn’t even know you should be looking for a class like this. If you have a hands-on learner in grades 6-12 you need to check out Thinking Like an Engineer  and Thinking Like an Architect from the Innovators Tribe. Brock has been working through Thinking Like an Engineer for the past few weeks.

Thinking Like an Engineer
Technology Engineeering Education (TEE) has been taught in schools for over 100 years. These days it is the “T” and “E” part of S.T.E.M. education. According to Innovators Tribe, “There are an estimated 1.2 million home school and private school students in the U.S. who have these gifts. Some know it, and some don’t. The problem is the alarming few training and curriculum resources available to help identify, encourage, and train these special students who are often left without a sense of purpose.” Continue reading

All Around the Home and Homestead #48

Happy Monday!

This past weekend the weather was fairly mild, so we took advantage of it and cut quite a bit of firewood. It’s such a blessing to have more wood cut and stacked, especially since this upcoming week the temperate isn’t supposed to get above the mid-40’s.

One of the loads of wood from this weekend.

It’s time for the weekly All Around the Home and Homestead Blog Party. I hope you will stop by throughout the week to see the linked up articles.

The Magic Stories ~ Review

This latest review comes to you from, Allsaid & Dunn, LLC, publishers of The Reading Game and authors of the Wordly Wise series. Their series called The Magic Stories consists of six engaging stories: The Magic Hole, The Magic Ax, The Magic Joke, The Magic Hotdog, The Magic Boots, and The Magic Box.

The Magic Stories are delivered in PDF format and can be printed (which is what we did) or can be used on the iPad or the computer. Eli doesn’t particularly like to read off the computer screen so we printed the each of the stories off.
