The Glass Castle ~ Review

Recently, Adisyn had the opportunity to read The Glass Castle by Trisha White Priebe and Jerry B. Jenkins.  The Glass Castle is a clean, Christian fiction from Shiloh Run Press.  Adisyn loved it so much that I had a hard time getting her to put the book down long enough to do anything else.  If you are looking for a good book for your middle school age child, she can’t recommend The Glass Castle enough.

The Glass Castle

The new queen wants to produce an heir to the kingdom, the only problem is that the first queen gave birth to a son.  The new queen doesn’t want to take a chance that this son will surface and rightfully claim heir to throne, so she develops a plan.  She decides to get rid of all the thirteen year old children in the kingdom.  What she didn’t plan on though was that these thirteen year old children would form an underground network to try to thwart her plan…

Avery lived with her brother and father in a small cottage in a clearing in the woods.  On her thirteenth birthday, she decides to take a walk in the woods in her most beautiful dress.  When she realizes that someone is following her and her three-year old brother, Henry, she starts running, dragging him along. She tried to desperately to get Henry and herself hidden in the tree house that her father had built for her; instead everything went black. She awoke to find out they were kidnapped by an old woman.  The woman took her to the castle where she was imprisoned with other thirteen year old children.

The Glass Castle {Shiloh Run Press Review}After being held captive she became close friends with three other captives:  Tuck, Kate and Kendrick.  Avery’s attempts to uncover the secrets to the King’s first wife leads to some difficult situations.  To add to the intrigue, Avery’s mother told had her many different stories before she disappeared.  After Avery was captured and held in the castle, she began to realize that the stories her mother had told her were about the castle.  How did her mother know so much about the castle?

The story ends with a cliff hanger that has Adisyn begging for the next book in the series!

Adisyn really, really recommends The Glass Castle as a must read.  In fact, she has started passing the book around to her friends so they can read it also.
