Prasso – meaning to practice, to form a routine, or to perform repeatedly or habitually.
This summer, I was given the opportunity to review a Bible study that is geared directly toward teenagers and since Brock is officially a teenager now I wanted to try it out. I received one copy of each, the Teen Prasso Teacher’s Manual and Teen Prasso Homework Manual from Prasso Ministries. The study is designed for teen groups however it can easily be used for just one student. (However, each student will need his/her own Student Journal.)
The Teen Prasso Teacher’s Manual is set up for 13 weekly teaching lessons and small group discussions. Week 1 is used to introduce the students to the study and daily journal. During this first lesson, we begin the fictional story of two teenage boys who embark on a journey of their own to stay for one week in the Rocky Mountains. The story is used as a good illustration of the lessons that are being taught from the scripture reading and message.
In the Instructions for Group Discussion Leaders, the leader is introduced to the 80/20 Rule. 80% of the talking should be the students and only 20% of the talking the leader.
The 13 Teaching Lessons are:
- Week 1 The Right Beginning
- Week 2 The Map
- Week 3 The Bridge
- Week 4 The Storms
- Week 5 The Enemy
- Week 6 Full Testimony
- Week 7 Two Opposing Fears
- Week 8 Anger
- Week 9 Forgiveness
- Week 10 Pride
- Week 11 Refocus
- Week 12 Prasso
- Week 13 Eternal Eyeglasses
The Teen Prasso Homework Manual is designed as a 12-week Bible study. Each week has five days of “homework” consisting of Bible verses to look up, write down and questions to answer. The sixth day, entitled Rethink allows the student to review and record what they have learned during that week’s studies. The daily lessons are designed to take approximately 20 minutes.
The 12 Lesson Titles are:
- Lesson 1 God Your Heavenly Father
- Lesson 2 God’s Love
- Lesson 3 Why Doesn’t 1 + 2 Add up in My Life?
- Lesson 4 It’s All-Out War
- Lesson 5 The Enemy’s Lies…and Where They Lead
- Lesson 6 Pressure!
- Lesson 7 Anger
- Lesson 8 Forgiveness
- Lesson 9 Two Brothers-Pride and Selfishness
- Lesson 10 Refocus
- Lesson 11 Prasso, putting it all into practice
- Lesson 12 The Journey
What did I think
I like the way the study is set up. The student book really encourages the teen to dig deep into the Word of God and record what he/she learns. By looking up and writing down the Bible verses, they are more likely to be imprinted upon the student’s heart.
I enjoyed the fictional story and how the lessons in it related to the Bible lessons being taught. I wanted to keep reading to see what would happen to the boys next. The study questions are well thought out to encourage the student(s) to develop a better understanding of God and His Word.
The most important part of the entire study is the completion of the student journal. This is the time that they actually dig deep and begin to Prasso (form the habit of studying) God’s Word. This is certainly a habit that I think is worth developing in my children. Using the Prasso Teen study is a good way to help encourage teens to take that personal step of daily Bible study!
