For this review, we received one of the newest books written by Susan K. Marlow, Tales from the Circle C Ranch, a collection of short-stories from Circle C Adventures. As I mentioned in our review of Thick as Thieves, Adisyn (and now Rebekah too) love reading the stories of Andrea (Andi) Carter. The short stories in Tales from the Circle C Ranch were inspired by questions asked by fans. In addition to the paperback book, we also received access to the Andrea Carter’s Tales from the Circle C Ranch Learning Lapbook as a digital download.
The titles for the stories in Tales From the Circle C Ranch are:
Part One: The Early Years
- Britches Are Not for Little Girls
- The Best Gift of All
- Aunt Rebecca and the Hat
- White Christmas
Part Two: The In-Between Years
- Prince Loco, Chad’s Crazy Horse
- Hurrah for the Fourth of July!
- A Matter of Honor
- Snakes Alive!
- Virginia’s Riding Lesson
- Where the Trees Meet the Bay
- Adios, Jeffrey Sullivan
The Andrea Carter’s Tales from the Circle C Ranch Learning Lapbook, is a 39 page lapbook that is full of hands-on activities and additional learning that goes right along with the stories in the Tales From the Circle C Ranch. The lapbook is designed to be used with children in grades 3-6 however, my younger children enjoyed completing the lapbook right along with the older ones; I just had to modify how much writing they were expected to do.
The topics that are covered in the lapbook include:
- Britches, Dresses and Overalls
- An 1800s General Store
- History of Photograph
- “Jingle Bells”
- Blizzards
- State Fairs
- History of Fireworks
- Limericks
- California King Snake
- Saddles
- Pacific Coast States
- Crabs
- Visiting Cards
- The Apothecary Shop
- Choose a Story
- Tales Mini-coloring Book
We used Tales From the Circle C Ranch as a family read aloud; however, there were times I had to go find the book as Adisyn would take it and read on her own as well. (Not that I’m complaining about that at all!)
We really had fun reading this book! Susan K. Marlow’s writing draws my kids (and me) right into the 1800s. They love to read about Andrea Carter and her adventures. They also enjoyed completing the lapbooks. I like that the stories are wholesome, Christian fiction and that the corresponding lapbook enhanced what they learned. They didn’t just hear about something briefly in the story, they were able to learn more about it.

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for your fun review of Tales and taking the time to give details too. I’m glad your family is enjoying Andi’s adventures. Isn’t it fun when you can’t find the book and realize your kids are reading it on their own? 🙂
Susan
You’ll be writing and publishing your own ranch tales one day! Oh, wait! You already are!
