Reading Eggs Workbook ~ Review

Recently, we’ve been working on a fun review from Reading Eggs and their new 200 Essential Reading Skills for Kindergarten. Hannah has been so excited to have her very own, colorful Reading Eggs workbook. She really looks forward to her schooltime. Since she is just in Kindergarten, we break her work into segments. Typically, one day she will complete a lesson of the online work. The following day she will do the corresponding workbook pages. This has worked well for her as she gets accustomed to “doing school” regularly. She has had so much fun with the course that she’s always eager to work on her school.

More About Reading Eggs

The Reading Eggs program focuses on five key principles: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, reading comprehension and fluency. While it is a really fun website with lessons, games and songs, it can effectively take a student non-reading to reading fluently. Several of my children used Reading Eggs in the past with great results. You can read a previous review here.

Reading Eggs is broken into various maps. Each map contains 10 lessons. At the completion of each lesson, Hannah gets to break an egg for a prize.

One of the favorite aspects has always been that each of the kids has been able to decorate their own house on the Reading Eggs program. When they earn points through completing lessons, it allows them to use those points to personalize their home. Another favorite are the cute songs that help reinforce the phonics sounds. (Although the older kids don’t find these songs as much fun as they once did. Ha) My favorite part is that Hannah enjoys it so much and is learning so much.

More About 200 Essential Reading Skills for Kindergarten

The Kindergarten workbook covers the first 60 lessons of Reading Eggs. Each lesson is broken down into four pages. The lessons in the workbook coordinate perfectly with the online course which really has helped Hannah to grasp the concepts. She has enjoyed working through both components.

The workbook is very helpful in that she can also work on her handwriting. Other topics covered in the workbook include the letter sounds, phonics, identifying high frequency words, comprehension, and sight words.

I am so glad we that they have come out with the workbooks! It’s such a great asset to the Reading Eggs program!!

What is Math Seeds?

Mathseeds is the math version of Reading Eggs. The lessons are fun, engaging and interactive making math delightul for students age 3-9. When starting Math Seeds, I had the option of letting Hannah start at the beginning or taking the placement test. I decided to have her do the placement test to see how well she did. She started on Map 3 and has really been enjoying Mathseeds!

It looks like Hannah is going to have a great Kindergarten year with Reading Eggs and Mathseeds.
