Like Arrows Movie ~ Review and Giveaway

Every Child is Like an Arrow

I just had the opportunity to watch the new movie from FamilyLife and the Kendrick Brothers, Like Arrows. You guys it was SO GOOD! Like Arrows will be showing in limited theaters for two nights only, May 1 and 3, 2018.

About Like Arrows

Like Arrows is executive produced by Alex and Stephen Kendrick, and FamilyLife’s Dennis and Barbara Rainey and Bob Lepine. Like Arrows casts a powerful vision for parents, reminding us that nothing is more important for any family than to have God and His Word directing our lives. The film will release as part of a significant new parenting initiative called FamilyLife’s Art of Parenting™, which will also include a free online video series and an eight-session small group series.

The Storyline for Like Arrows

Charlie and Alice are like so many couples, plodding through the days trying to just make it through. However, conflict, rebellion and resentment seem to take over their family. What can they do to change the tide of their family relationships?

Their love story, 50 years in the making, shows the hope and redemption that can be claimed when parents are equiped with the Biblical truths of intentional family life. The movie experiences many of the joys and extreme challenges that parents are met with. Together, they learn that knowing and living by God’s Word is what brings transformation and hope to any family.

I give Like Arrows an A++! Scott and I had the opportunity to watch the preview showing with close friends. We all agreed the movie was soooo good! I can’t wait for it to come out so we can see it again. We are already making plans to host FamilyLife’s Art of Parenting™. We truly believe that families can be transformed by digging into the Word of God!

Princess Cut Movie ~ Review

Recently, our family movie night included the award winning movie,  Princess Cut , from Watchman Pictures. Grace a Carolina farm girl in her early twenties, has always dreamed of marrying “Mr. Right.”After a series of relationship let downs, Grace begins looking at romance through a new lens. She begins to trust her dad to help guide her on a journey to discover what true love really means.

Princess Cut The Movie

“Dad do you think that there’s just one perfect person out there that we’re supposed to find and marry?”

“That’s a good question, Robert, I think it’s not somuch about finding the perfect person as it is becoming the person God meant you to be.”

Memoria Press Traditional Spelling I ~ Review

Memoria Press has added to their already great line of classical education products with their new Traditional Spelling I. For this review, we received the Traditional Spelling Book I Student Book and corresponding Teacher Manual, Traditional Spelling Book I Practice Sheets, Classical Phonics, Second Edition and the Phonics Flashcards.

Traditional Spelling I

In the past, we have the opportunity to review other products from Memoria Press you can read those reviews here:

How Does Traditional Work and How is it Structured?

Spelling I is a phonics based, comprehensive spelling program. The teacher guide outlines a five day schedule. We actually modified this some because of the length of the Day 1 lessons. For my busy, doesn’t like to sit or write for too long 7 year old boy, Day 1 lessons were too long. So instead of covering one lesson per week we stretched them out to about a week and a half.

The teacher guide is easy to follow and lays out the activities and assignments neatly. Each Lesson presents the structure of the lessons is basically the same way. This is helpful in that I knew what to expect each time and didn’t have to spend a ton of prep time. Which is good for this busy homeschool mom.

IMG_3606The Practice Sheets book provides a one page practice sheet for each lesson. On the left side of the page is a list of the week’s words. There are two columns for the student to then write the spelling words for additional practice. Quinton was a quick study and so far he hasn’t really needed the extra practice on his words. I anticipate that at some point he might need the practice extra though as he progresses through the course.

What Did We Think of Traditional Spelling I?

Spelling I was a good match for Quinton. He isn’t fond of long drawn out lessons, so the lessons that can be broken into bite size segments were great for him! I really, really like the Phonics Flashcards and Classical Phonics book that help emphasize the rules that are focused on with each list.

There are a LOT of Phonics Flashcards. At first, I was struggling with how to keep them organzied and neat. A trip to the local Dollar Tree solved this delimma, I found a box that could have been made specific for the flashcards. Score!

I’ve even been using the Phonics Flashcards with a couple of the older kids who, because of their dyslexia, needed more phonics practice. Using the flashcards with multiple kids made it more fun for all involved. The older ones didn’t feel like I was singling them out to practice phonics and they felt like they were helping Quinton out. Win-Win!
