I Know It ~ Review

This latest review has been for an online math program called I Know It. I Know It comes from the people behind SuperTeacherWorksheets.com. You can read my review about SuperTeacherWorksheet.com. Our family has had the opportunity to review the family plan, which includes logins for up to 4 people. I Know It is designed to provide extra practice for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade with their math. It is not designed to be a full curriculum.

I Know It offers a 60 day free trial to interested homeschoolers and teachers.  Order & pricing information can be found on this page.

I Know It Interactive Math Lessons K - 5 grade
How Does I Know It work?As the parent, I can go in and assign lessons for each of the kids using I Know It. The lessons are divided by grade level and then by general topic. For instance, Quinton is working on various lessons in both the first and second grade level. I have assigned him various topics including; counting coins, telling time to the half hour, place value, fractions, estimating inches, and temperature to name a few.

I can also assign the same lesson to multiple children by clicking on the lesson I want to assign and then either selecting “all students” or “some student.” Some lessons I wanted both Rebekah and Eli to work on just to give them each a little more practice. This worked well as I would select some students and then select the box beside the name(s) of the students I wanted to complete the assignment. Then I can determine how long the assignment is displayed on their home page. It can either be displayed until it is completed or I can specify a certain length of time. The next option is whether I want them to complete a certain number of problems or work a certain amount of time. I have all their assigned lessons set to complete a certain number of problems, typically 15.

The kids are able to adjust certain aspects of the program as well. I’ve found that my kids like to feel like they have some control over their school. This is an easy thing for them to control. They can pick what order the complete lessons in, as well as, if they want a male or female voice to read to them. Whether or not they want animation  and animation sound.

The following is a view from Quinton’s homepage. He can choose which lesson he wants to complete. The lessons are displayed until he has completed them. Screenshot 2018-09-26 at 1.57.13 PM

What Do We Think of I Know It?

I like being able to pick the assignments that the kids work on through the program. The kids like the freedom to pick which of those assignments they complete first. I also like that I get a weekly email with updates as to how they kids have been progressing through the program. Of course, at any time I can also log in and see which lessons they’ve completed and how they did on them.

I Know It has been a great refresher for some math concepts for Eli while for Rebekah and Quinton, we’ve been using it side by side with their math curriculum. We’ve all be pleased with how they program works.

Stocking up on Homesteading and Sustainable Farming Books

As the days grow shorter and cooler, it makes me think seriously about the days of winter coming. One thing that I have more time for in the winter is reading. Now is a great time to stock up on some great homesteading/farming reading material. Some of these are even on sale right through Amazon.

I have read both of these books by Jim Gerrish, however, we don’t own a copy of either so they are on my list to get. As we have been getting our farm seeded back down and set up in a Management Intensive Grazing system, it will be good to be able to reference Jim’s MIG book.

We have been continually working to improve our forage, to the point that I hope that we can start producing grassfed, grass finished beef. There are so many health benefits with grassfed meats, dairy and eggs.

I already own You Can Farm: The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Start & Succeed in a Farming Enterprise book. In fact, I bought it nearly 20 years ago when I was in college. I’m sure lots of college girls are buying and reading sustainable ag books, right? Anyway, I would really like to read Your Successful Farm Business.

Holistic Management is also right up there on my list of books to get and read. I would love for us to have a framework for making decisions that will benefit our farm for generations to come.

Blessings,

Jennifer
