None Like Him ~ Review and Giveaway

It is so encouraging to know that we are not like God and yet he loves us anyway.  In Jen Wilkin’s book, None Like Him: 10 Ways God is Different From Us (and why that’s a good thing), examines the self-existent, self-sufficient,  eternal, immutable, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, sovereign, infinite and incomprehensible attributes of God.

Jen is a speaker, writer, and teacher of women’s Bible studies.  She also wrote Women of the Word:  How to Study the Bible with Both Our Hearts and Our Minds.

None like Him

This isn’t a quick read but rather a book which encourages us to dig-in and learn.   It explores the truth of who God is and why we are different from Him. We learn about God and his design for us, and even though we are made in his image, we are not made to be Him.   This is so ENCOURAGING!

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.  Proverbs 31:30

Beginning in the Introduction, we learn the importance of becoming a God fearing woman.  She points out an important truth found in Psalm 111:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”   It is not enough to look at God as our heavenly father, we must also show Him reverent fear.

There are ten chapters in the book which explore the ten attributes of God are:

  1. Infinite: The God of No Limits
  2. Incomprehensible:  The God of Infinite Mystery
  3. Self-Existent:  The God of Infinite Creativity
  4. Self-Sufficient:  The God of Infinite Provision
  5. Eternal:  The God of Infinite Days
  6. Immutable:  The God of Infinite Sameness
  7. Omnipresent:  The God of Infinite Place
  8. Omniscient: The God of Infinite Knowledge
  9. Omnipotent:  The God of Infinite Power
  10. Sovereign:  The God of Infinite Rule

At the end of each chapter is a list of “Verses for Meditation.”  You are encouraged to look up the verses and journal about them to help remember the concepts taught in that chapter.  There are also “Questions for Reflection,” to further encourage us to dig deeper.

If you long to be encouraged on your walk with God, I would encourage you to read None Like Him.  I have been so encouraged as I have been reminded that I’m not like God and that’s such a good thing!

Some of My Favorite Quotes from None Like Him

“So it has been every since, human beings created to bear the image of God instead inspire to become like God.  Designed to reflect his glory, we chose instead to rival it.”

“The human mind in its finiteness cannot fully comprehend or express an infinite God.”

“Trusting God with our time means we make good use of the time we are given.  This sounds simple, but it’s not.”

I know this is an old post, but I have a question. We are going to read this book for our first Book Club meeting and I’m trying to find some things to use to decorate that has to do with the book. Where did you get the template of the pictures and the quote from the book? I’ve seen several of them used and just trying to find them to maybe use on the tables or something.

    Thanks!
