This latest review has been brought to you by Carole P. Roman and Awaywegomedia.com. We received four of her “If You Were Me and Lived in…” books including:
- If You Were Me and Lived in…Renaissance Italy: Volume 2 (An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time) by Carole P. Roman (2016-05-06)
- If You Were Me and Lived in… Elizabethan England (An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time) (Volume 3) by Carole P. Roman (2016-03-21)
- If You Were Me and Lived in…Colonial America: An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time (Volume 9)
- If You Were Me and Lived in…the Middle Ages: An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time (Volume 6)
A Little About Each of the Books We Received:
The Renaissance (French for rebirth) was an exciting time as new discoveries were made in many disciplines including: art, astronomy, architecture, science and exploration. Merchants traveled to other parts of the world and brought back new spices, plants, and animals. We learn about a girl who was born in 1483 in Florence, Italy and the lives of those in her family as well as other classes within her community.
In the book, Carol P. Roman describes all of these changes. Her writing style easily draws children in as they learn about different time periods and peoples. She describes in great detail the clothing worn during the Renaissance and the type of house they lived in.
In the back of the book, she also includes a section called “Famous People from the Italian Renaissance” as well as a glossary.
There is also a glossary and “Important people to know in Elizabethan Era” section in the back of this book.
Like the other books in this series there is a “Famous People from the Middle Ages” and glossary section.
What Do We Think About The “If You Were Me and Lived…” Series
All four books that we reviewed, are quite captivating and descriptive. They have made great read-alouds. It was interesting to note, that each of the four books is illustrated by a different artist. These books would be a great addition to an unit study you are already doing or a great place to start a unit study. Students could easily use the “Important people” section as a starting point to do further research on the people that were influential in each time period.
We have enjoyed meeting people from different time periods and learning more about them and their culture.
