ForBrain ~ Review

Recently, we have had the opportunity to use and review the wonderful bone conduction headset from Forbrain – Sound For Life Ltd.  The goal of Forbrain is “helping children and adults to develop their talents and potential by using their voice.”

What is Forbrain and what makes it special?

Forbrain is designed to help boost the users brain simply by hearing their own voice through the headset.  Forbrain uses bone conduction technology.  Basically, this means that when the user speaks the sound travels through the dynamic filter and then vibrates on the bones in front of the ears. This bone conduction delivers the messages directly to the nervous system and brain rather than relying on the ears or air conduction.

Forbrain has a dynamic filter that helps to amplify the users voice while simultaneously blocking out environmental noise.  This helps the user to hear his voice clearly without distraction.  This helps train the brain to be more attentive.Forbrain – Sound For Life Ltd Review

An important part of the Forbrain is that the user can also still communicate with those around him/her since there isn’t anything covering the ears.  Therefore it works well for reading aloud, rehearsing lines, general conversation, singing, and a variety of other applications.

Forbrain is scientifically designed to help improve speech fluency, pronunciation, sound discrimination and rhythm.  This, in turn, helps the user to be able to have more effective communication.  It is also designed to help improve short-term memory.

The kids took turn using the Forbrain throughout the trial period.  I initially intended to use it primarily for Brock to help him learn to enunciate his words more clearly.  However, it soon became obvious that it was useful to all the kids.

The girls, especially, liked to sing with it on and I noticed a marked improvement in their ability to stay on key.  I think that they were able to focus on their voices and then learn to make the necessary adjustments to stay on key.

We used it in a variety of other ways as well.  The four oldest kids were recently in a drama production and they were able to use the Forbrain while they practiced their lines aloud.  They also used it when practicing their poetry for the poetry memorization class they’ve been taking.

The Forbrain has been a very popular review item around our home which I really think has been useful for all the kids who are old enough to use it.  I have even worn it, so that I could experience first-hand how it works.  I noticed that when I have the Forbrain on I make a conscientious effort to speak slower and clearer.  When using the headset it is much easier to discriminate the sounds of the words being spoken.

I think that Forbrain is a powerful tool that can be used to help train both children and adults to speak more clearly and become more effective communicators.  I can see that it is very useful for those with speech and language delays or difficulties.  I am excited to see the progress that Brock is making with his enunciation and that the girls have made with their singing!
