Do You Believe? has been on my “want to see list” since it first came out in the theater. So when our family had the opportunity to review the movie, Do You Believe?, from the makers of God’s Not Dead we were all super excited. The DVD that we received for this review was provided by FishFlix.com. FishFlix.com is an Online Christian Movie Store. Their goal is to use media and entertainment to educate, inspire, and bring glory to God.
Initially, we are introduced to a dozen very different people, from very different social and economic backgrounds. These twelve people whose lives seem separate from one another soon begin to intersect in ways that only God could foresee.
After his encounter with Malachi, Matt continues on his way home. When he sees a homeless, pregnant, teenage girl digging through a dumpster he feels compelled to help her. He takes her to his home where is wife, Grace, says that she can’t stay. They decide that they would pay for her to have a motel room. Over the next few days, Grace’s heart softens toward the girl, Maggie. Grace takes her into their home and helps Maggie get prenatal care during the final weeks of her pregnancy.
We see an EMT, Bobby, who puts his job on the line when he leads a dying man to Christ. When the man’s wife sues Bobby, Bobby’s wife questions why he would risk their financial safety because of his spiritual beliefs. Their rocky marriage is further complicated by her brother, Carlos, when he comes home from the Marines suffering from severe PTSD. Bobby’s wife, Elena, has plenty of job-related stress as a nurse who often sees the worst in people.
J.D. and Terri, also members of Matt’s church, have struggled for years on how to handle the untimely death of their daughter at the hands of a drunk driver. After hearing Matt’s sermon about putting their faith into action, they volunteered at a soup kitchen where they meet a widow and her young daughter.
Throughout the movie we continue to see how one person’s actions can change the lives of so many other people. As Christians we are encouraged to make a difference for Christ, to put our faith into action.
