FishFlix.com: Captive ~ Review

Recently, I had the opportunity to review the movie Captive (on DVD) provided by FishFlix.com.  FishFlix.com was started by Dr. Enis Sakirgil, a Turkish Christian, over a decade ago when he was working on the movie – Apostle Paul and the Earliest Churches.  The film was made with Christians in the West in mind teaching them about the biblical history in the country of Turkey.

Later when Dr. Sakirgil and his family immigrated to the United States, he began selling the movie over the internet.  Soon he expanded into selling other Christian Movies, giving birth to FishFlix.com.

FishFlix.com is based in Mora, Minnesota.  The company goal is to “glorify God by providing Amazing Customer Service, Unbelievable Prices and Great Variety for Christian Movie Fans.”   They continue to partner with Christian ministries in Turkey to help spread the gospel in one of the world’s most unreached regions.

Captive: Based on an Inspiring True Story

We are introduced to two lives that seem very independent of one another at the beginning of the film; soon, however, these two lives collide.   After being convicted of rape and sentenced to jail time, Brian Nichols escapes police custody by brutally beating a female officer.  He then takes the officer’s gun and shoots others as he is escaping.  While on the run, he takes Ashley Smith hostage in her own home.

Ashley was recently widowed and her daughter had been taken from her because of her Methamphetamine use.  As we get to know Ashley, we see that she has made many mistakes throughout her life that have led to hurt for her and those she loves.  However, she loves her daughter dearly and is trying to straighten out her life so that she can get her back.

One of the other women in the support group Ashley attended gave her the book, The Purpose Drive Life, by Rick Warren.  At the time she received the book, she seemed far less than interested in it though.

Then through a miraculous serious of events, Ashley finds the courage and inspiration to change not only her life but to bring forth change in Brian’s life as well.  She began to read The Purpose Drive Life aloud to Brian while she was held hostage.  Ashley and Brian begin to see the hope that only Christ can bring in the midst of their darkest hours.

Captive is rated PG-13 due to the graphic nature in which Brian escapes from custody.  However, I really recommend Captive to those 13 and older.  It is an inspiring, true story of how God can take our ashes and turn them into something beautiful.  Even in her darkest hour, God was working through Ashley’s life to bring change not only to her but also to Brian.

I have also found FishFlix.com’s prices to be some of the most competitive on Christian movies.
