If You Were Me and Lived in…Poland: A Child’s Introduction to Cultures Around the World (Volume 18)

Are you ready to travel to Central Europe to learn about the country of Pokska? If You Were Me and Lived in Poland  intruduces many common Polish words such as sklep (store), mleko (milk), chleb (bread) amoung many others. Customs and traditions are introduced in a conversational style that engages the kids.

If You Were Me an Lived In… Cuba: A Child’s Introduction to Cultures Around the World (If You Were Me an Lived In… Culture)

We were able to “travel” to the northern Carribbean to the large island of Cuba. We learned that Cuba was founded by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. We didn’t know that sports were so important in Cuba. We also learned about Castillo del Morro the old Spanish Fort built in the 17th century.

The A Child’s Introduction to Cultures Around the World series books have been a great way to introduce our family to various other countries and their cultures.

If You Were Me and Lived in…Viking Europe: An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time (Volume 3)

We found out who the Vikings were and what they wore. Did you know that their summer clothes were made from handspun linen and that their winter clothes were made from their own sheep’s wool? We also learned more about famous Vikings such as Erik the Red, Leif Erikson and Rollo. We were also introduced to the various Norse gods; Freya, Frigg, Idun.

Reading Viking Europe aloud to the kids, started a lively conversation about a series of books I had to the kids a few years ago about Vikings. It was fun to hear the older kids reminscing about the lessons they had learned from those stories and telling their younger siblings about them. The Civilizations Throughout Time books are written for children ages 8-15. They serve as a great introduction to various time periods for younger children while older children have a deeper understanding of the concepts presented in the story.
