The girls and I have had the opportunity to review Esther: The Belle of Patience from the series The Adventures of Rooney Cruz. Written by Erin Weideman, Esther: The Belle of Patience is a sweet children’s book that applies the Biblical principal of patience to everyday life.
This original children’s series, Bible Belles’ The Adventures of Rooney Cruz, is written to introduce superhero women of the Bible to children in a way that they can easily remember the story. Hannah, Esther, Abigail, Ruth and Deborah are the five women from the Bible that are highlighted in the series.
Esther: The Belle of Patience begins with Rooney waiting for her turn to play in her team’s soccer game. Even though she seldom gets to play she enjoys being part of the team, except there is one problem. A teammate, Amanda, rarely passes the ball to any of the other girls. Although Amanda often scores a goal, the other girls are frustrated at her lack of teamwork.
Rooney tries to talk to the coach about Amanda but can’t seem to find the right time or the right words to say. We are then introduced to, Mari, Rooney’s personal angel. Mari takes her back in time to see the story of Esther. Rooney learns that Esther’s superpower was her patience.
Rooney prayed for God to show the right time to talk to her coach. She then sees her coach sitting by himself, Mari gently nudges her that this might be the right time to talk to him.
The story is written so that children can see how Bible stories apply to their lives. By learning from Esther and her patience, Rooney was able to apply the principal of patience to her own life.
The girls and I enjoyed the story. (So did the boys even if they were pretending that they weren’t listening to it.) It is so important that we teach our children important Biblical principals such as patience. Esther: The Belle of Patience is an engaging way to do just that.
