Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology, just might be the resource you’ve been looking for to teach your Kindergarten-6th grade students. Recently, members of the Homeschool Review Crew have had the opportunity to review this course which included the following resources:

  • Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology Text
  • Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology Junior Notebooking Journal
  • Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology Notebooking Journal
  • Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology MP3 Audio CD

The course is broken into 14 Lessons, which if taken at the recommended pace will take 28 weeks to complete (two weeks per lesson.) During these lessons, students will be introduced to numerous topics including:

  • the anatomy of the cell and DNA,
  • the anatomy and physiology of the skeletal system,
  • how the muscular system moves the skeletal system,
  • the digestive and renal systems,
  • health and nutrition,
  • respiratory system,
  • cardiovascular, nervous, and endocrine systems,
  • the integumentary system,
  • the lymphatic and indocrine systems and
  • growth and development.

The Charlotte Mason approach to teaching is the basis for the interactive narratives, hands-on activities and labs, and the notebooking that Apologia’s Young Explorer series is known for. With only a few exceptions (such as a blood typing kit), the supplies necessary for completing the labs and projects are common household items which can be acquired fairly easily.

How Have We Used and Liked Human Anatomy and Physiology?

I have been working through Human Anatomy and Physiology with Eli and Rebekah. I used the regular notebook with Eli and the Junior Notebook with Rebekah. This has been a good fit for both of them.

I have been reading it aloud to them primarily; however, I have started having them listen to the MP3 Audio CD. I have used the MP3 Audio CDs for other courses the kids have done and I do like them as a time-saver for me! One important note is that not every CD player will play these MP3 Audio CDs, make sure yours is compatible.

The kids always enjoy completing the hands-on activites. There’s one thing I wish I would have done though, I wish I would have bought one of the prepackaged lab kits sold to go along with this course. I am not very good about getting the supplies we need ahead of when we need them. So then I had to make some special trips to the store to pick up supplies. Mental note to self, spend the money to buy the kit for upcoming science courses.

I have liked every single Apologia science course we have used thus far, this one is no different. The textbook is written in a conversational tone that engages the kids while they are learning.
