We have had the opportunity to revisit A+ Interactive Math (by A+ TutorSoft Inc.) with Eli, Rebekah and Quinton by using their Adaptive Math Curriculum Online. If you’ve been reading for a while, you may remember that we previously had the opportunity to review their Family Math Package. You can read about that here.
The Adapative Math Curriculum covers Grades 1–6 and Pre-Algebra. You can have up to 10 students enrolled. When you register, you pick a “target” grade level for each student. The student then completes a series of tests to identify their skill level for each of the math concepts. The questions on the test adjust in difficulty automatically based on the student’s skill level and proficiency. Those concepts that the student doesn’t demonstrate mastery of then become part of their individualized lesson plan. Including, video lessons, interactive review, practice worksheets online, automatic grading and tracking and re-testing. This is a skill based math curriculum.
Other members of the Homeschool Review Crew also reviewed the Family Math Package. The Family Math Package does not test students but it does include access to all the grade levels available; Grades 1- 6, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. This membership also includes up to 10 students.
What We Thought About A+ Interactive Math
The adaptive placement tests are such a great concept. I love that the kids can complete the various skill checks to see if they have mastered that skill or if they need to do the corresponding lessons that cover that topic. I really, really like almost everything about A+ Interactive Math there’s just one thing I’d love to see changed. When doing the adaptive tests it would be great if there was an option for the kids to click on a “read to me” link. As is so often the case with dyslexic students, their math ability is far greater than their reading ability. The way we overcame that was for me to sit with them and read the questions out loud to them. While this did work, it was rather time consuming and with three students going through the adaptive tests it meant that I spent a great deal of time reading math questions off the computer screens.
The kids would often ask how long each of the adaptive tests were. They would really like to have seen that they’ve completed x number of x problems. That way they could have an idea of how much progress they’ve made. It seemed like just when they thought a test might “last forever” they would finish. Knowing how many problems ahead of time would take the guessing out though and make them feel less like it might “last forever.”
We all really liked the actual lessons. They are designed for all three learning styles (audio, visual and kinesthetic). This takes the stress out of math for those children with varying learning styles. I didn’t have any complaints about the actual lessons.
I did prefer the adaptive component over the Family Math Package that we had previously reviewed because the lessons were tailored to what each of the kids needed to focus on!

I encourage you to read other reviews from the Homeschool Review Crew. While some had the Adaptive Math curriculum that we reviewed others reviewed the family math curriculum.
