Building Food Storage With On-Sale Items

A great way I have found to add to our food storage is to purchase produce, meat and pantry items when they are on sale.  Many types of produce can be frozen or canned, meat can also be frozen or canned and many pantry items have extended shelf life.

I try to watch the sales ads for various local stores.  Typically, I can find the best produce sales at Aldi.  Our closest Aldi is about 40 miles away though so I can’t afford to go there weekly.  However, our local Wal-Mart will price match so I can still take advantage of those sales.

Building Your Food Storage

I am so excited to introduce to you a new series that I am starting this year!  It is aimed at helping you build your food storage; whether you are just getting started or you are looking to expand the foods that you have in storage.  I hope to encourage you to expand your food storage even if you are on a “shoestring” budget!

Faithful Homestead Food Storage Sometimes building food storage can seem like a daunting task, especially when you are on a limited or fixed budget.  Of course, if you garden you can put up your extra produce in season, but what if you don’t garden or if you didn’t have excess produce?  I will share the ways we have been able to put food away even when our budget is tight.

There is even a Facebook Group Building Your Food Storage, so that we can encourage one another.  I hope you will join me on this journey!

Blessings,

Jennifer

Farm Progress: The Farrowing Huts are Finished

We finished building the new farrowing huts with virtually no time to spare.  So far the design of the huts seems to be working well.  We have been busy, busy with taking turns checking on sows and gilts pigging around the clock.  All the hard work pays off though when we see those healthy, cute baby pigs thriving!!

Most of the huts now have the doors shut since there are sows with litters in them. I didn’t think to take a picture when we finished up the huts. As you can see, the doors on the east end don’t seal shut so at some point we will build new doors to replace them.
