Do your kids ever steal your phone or camera and try to make Lego movies? Mine don’t anymore thanks to the Stopmotion Explosion Animation Kit that we have been reviewing. Stopmotion Explosion is a fun hands-on way for kids (or adults) to make really cool stop-motion videos.
The Stopmotion Explosion Animation Kit comes with a 290+ page book with tons of easy to understand how-to information for making stop motion movies. The cd contains all the software for both the sound and the video making. The HD Camera with its 4.5′ cord, grip clip, manual focus and built in microphone produces high quality pictures. There is also an easy to use Quick Start guide included in the kit so you can get started immediately making videos. (No need to bore the kids with a long set-up time, then as they want to learn more in depth they can utilize the book.)
The kids have had so much fun making short little movies. Most of their movies are made using their vast collection of Lego mini-figures and “props” they build to go with them. However they have also used some of the farm animal figurines for some neat looking farm movies.
They have learned that it is really important to just make small adjustments to each scene so that when the movie plays back it doesn’t look like it’s jumping. They have used many different props for their backgrounds; however, we have found that the Elmer’s Tri-Fold Display boards work well. They have been able to color these to make the scenery they desired.
The Technical Details
The computer requirements for Stopmotion Explosion Animation Kit are Mac OS X 10.7 or Windows XP, Vista, 7,8 or 10. For additional support or help, an internet connection is required.
The camera features a 1280 x 720 resolution. It has a manual focus that is capable of going down to 3 cm. The camera has a strong clip that can the kids cattached to all sorts of surfaces while they were making their movies. The camera cord is 4.5′ long which was plenty of length for all of their projects. It is also compatible with Skype and other video chatting applications (we are going to have to try this out soon.) There is also a built in microphone to record sound.
What Do We Think About the Stopmotion Explosion Animation Kit?
The kids have had a blast learning to produce stopmotion videos with the Stopmotion Explosion Animation Kit. The toughest part has been waiting for their turns while someone else is working. 😉
I’m sure the will spend many more hours making videos and thankfully, they no longer steal my phone and fill it up with countless numbers of pictures. Their videos have steadily gotten better as they learn more about what it takes to make the videos look right. I am really impressed with how easy it was for the kids to get started making their own videos right away by using the Quick Start Guide.
