The guys in my house have been making their way through the Manhood Journey Father’s Starter Kit from Manhood Journey & City on a Hill Studio. For this review, we received Manhood Journey Father’s Starter Kit which contains the Embarking 1 on 1 guide, the Embarking Group guide to be used for small group studies, 10 Maprochures, and a DVD that includes introductions for each of the 5 modules for the complete Manhood Journey series. Also included in the kit was a paperback copy of the book Wise Guys: Unlocking Hidden Wisdom from the Men Around You written by Kent Evans with Rob Suggs. (You might remember that Scott read this for a review last year.)
As the boys get older, it is easy to see that there are times they struggle with the boyhood versus manhood mentality. The other struggle involves the type of man they will become. Will they be men after God’s own heart?
Scott and the boys have embarked on a deliberate journey to help them become the men God desires them to be.
Manhood Journey Father’s Starter Kit is a 6 week study with one lesson per week. The lessons cover the “5 large rocks” of the Christian faith: Trusting God, Knowing His Word, Praying Fervently, Building Relationships, and Serving Others. There are hands on activities to help the boys “see” the ideas they are being taught. Each week there is also a featured Bible verse for them to memorize.
The guides are written with open-ended questions for the fathers/mentors to be able to start valuable discussions. Here are some examples:
There are also letters to Dad/mentor throughout the guidebook to help guide them in teaching these young men.
What Did We Think?
Manhood Journey Father’s Starter Kit is a great resource to equip the next generation of Godly men to “be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” (I Peter 5:8) We need to equip these boys to be men after God’s own heart, so that they “may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11) This set seeks to do just that!
I hope that Manhood Journey Father’s Starter Kit will be used by many, many men so that they can impact the next generation to be men who Trust God, Know His Word, Pray Fervently, Build Relationships, and Serve Others.
*Note the guys did let me hang out in the background so I could get an idea of the lessons but this is definitely best used with a father or other male mentor and his sons or mentees. I would encourage men in local churches to seek out those boys who do not have this type of influence in their lives and work through this study with them. It is a great way to get these boys on the journey to true manhood!
