During the summer, I especially like to have lessons for the kids that are rich in learning but don’t require a lot of time preparing or completing them. This collection from WriteBonnieRose, Learning About Science Collection, Level 3 (Cursive), fit that bill beautifully! I allowed Rebekah and Eli to pick the topics they were most interested in learning about from within the collection. Of course, they picked different topics, but that was totally fine.

The topics vary from 16-26 pages in lenth with most of them being around 18 pages long. There are short quiz worksheets at the end of each topic with answers provided on the following pages. I only printed off the pages that contained the lessons, practice pages and quiz so I wasn’t printing extra pages.
Eli chose to work on Energy and It’s Many Forms. Of course, if you know him, you know that one of his favorite projects in 4-H is electricity. So it didn’t surprise me at all that he wanted to pick the energy course first. What’s Going On Inside Plants was Rebekah’s choice to start. Also not surprising because of her interest in gardening.
The lessons are print and go. There are small paragraphs that introduce keywords in each of the different topics. Now you might be thinking well they can’t be learning much, but that wouldn’t be the case. It’s true there isn’t a lot of fluff in these studies; however, the topics are adequately covered without being long and boring.
I liked that the kids were learning something in addition to practicing their cursive. They didn’t grumble about hand-writing because they didn’t have to spend fooooorever working on hand-writing. Maybe your kids like practicing hand-writing. Mine do not. So this was a great way to encourage them to practice without it seeming like a complete drudgery.
There is even a Discussion Helps section that has creation science based links so when we want to go on rabbit trails we can.
