Grapevine Studies: Creation to Jacob ~ Review

(This post contains affiliate links which help to make this blog possible.)

I like for our family to do Bible studies together, which is a great thing about Grapevine Studies. They offer various Bible studies that can be adapted to many different ages and abilities.  We received a downloadable with two Levels; Old Testament 1: Level 2 Creation to Jacob (designed for those approximately 8-10) and the Traceable version (which is designed for ages 3-5).

On their website, Grapevine Studies offers a great chart for determining which study and what age group(s) would work well for your family.  Below is the chart:

Grapevine Studies also provides a list of necessary supplies that go along with their Bible study.  These are common items that are easy to obtain and include:

  • Teacher supplies: Bible, Grapevine Studies Teacher Book, dry erase board & markers (8 colors), andBible dictionary.
  • Student supplies: Bible, Grapevine Studies Student Book, and colored pencils.

Two different scheduling techniques are included, one in which you work through the Bible study daily and one where you work on it weekly.  For the daily schedule, each day would take approximately 15 minutes to complete that part of the lesson.  For the weekly schedule, it would take about an hour. (Depending on how detailed your student’s drawings are this will vary some.)

Grapevine Studies Review

The first lesson in Grapevine Studies begins with outlining the framework on the Bible study.  They approach studying the Bible like a puzzle, therefore the timeline is the first lesson completed so that the student can see an overview of the events that will take place.  On the timeline, the students draw stick figures which represent different people, places and events.  For example, the first symbol that the kids drew in the Creation to Jacob study was the purple triangle that represents God.  By drawing the various stick figures the student is able to take personalized notes that help them to remember the order of the events that occurred.

Starting with Lesson 2, the student begins reading (or hearing) a specified passage from the Bible.  They then begin drawing stick figures to represent what is happening in the story.  (I found that some of my kids like to add lots of detail to their stick figures while others go with very basic stick figures.) At the end of each lesson, there is a list of review questions that ask the who, what, why, when, and where questions.  There is also a Bible memory verse that goes along with each verse.

What Do We Think of Grapevine Studies: Creation to Jacob?

The kids love to draw so they have found this hands-on Bible study very fun!  The hardest part for me has been trying to get those who really like draw to not make masterpieces. 🙂  I like that the younger kids can use the Traceable version and follow right along with what we are learning.  This keeps their hands busy without being distracting to the older kids.
