We’ve recently been reviewing CursiveLogic, CursiveLogic Quick-Start Pack and The Art of Cursive with Rebekah. In the past, I had the opportunity to review the original CursiveLogic with Eli. I also had the opportunity to review The Art of Cursive during the their kickstarter campaign. So I was eager to review these latest products in the CursiveLogic line!
What Makes CursiveLogic Different Than Other Cursive Programs?
- Letters are grouped by shape
- Letter strings are taught from the beginning
- Color Coding helps students break down the letters into groups based on how they are formed.
- Catch Phrases help students remember how to create each letter and letter string
Letters grouped by shape: CursiveLogic breaks the alphabet into four basic shapes. Each lesson teaches all the letters that are that particular shape. This makes learning cursive faster and easier.
Letter strings: Instead of repeatedly writing an individual letter, CursiveLogic teaches all the letters of a particular shape in a connected string. This allows the student to be writing cursive from the very beginning.
Color coding: To help the student remember the shape each letter string has a theme color. These themes help the student to remember how to form the letters.
Catch phrases: CursiveLogic uses “verbal task analysis,” or saying an action verbally as it is performed manually, to aid the development of muscle memory and to give students a mnemonic they can return to over and over.
Differences Between the First Version of CursiveLogic and Latest Version
The latest version workbook doesn’t involve flipping the book back and forth to get to the next page. Instead the pages are sequential on the bottom side of the workbook, when you reach the end of the book you are actually at the half-way mark. Simply flip the workbook around and work to the end.
There are also more workbook pages in the newest edition of CursiveLogic giving the student even more opportunity to learn to read and write cursive.
The Art of Cursive
The Art of Cursive provides a great way to learn cursive, improve cursive skills and relax. The popularity of adult coloring books is taken to a new level with The Art of Cursive. Not only can you relax and color but you can improve your cursive handwriting.
In the beginning of the book, there are four short lessons introducing the concepts of CursiveLogic to the adult student. These four lessons introduce all 26 letters of the alphabet. Throughout the book, there are pictures to color followed by writing pages to further practice. Each page is designed to be pulled out of the book without compromising the integrity of the book. By being able to pull out the pages, it is much easier to turn and adjust them to be able to color them.
The CursiveLogic Quick-Start Pack
The CursiveLogic Quick-Start Pack includes the 48 minute webinar that introduces the techniques taught throughout CursiveLogic; including the four color groups and the catch phrases.
CursiveLogic is divided into 10 lessons with 4 of those lessons focusing on the lower case letters. These lessons typically take one week to complete in a classroom setting. However in a one-on-one setting, like we have been able to enjoy, the lessons can be done at a faster pace. The last six lessons focus on the more challenging capital letters.
What Did We Think of these Latest CursiveLogic Products?
Rebekah has been a very eager student when it comes to learning cursive with CursiveLogic. I really like the concepts behind CursiveLogic and the way that the lessons are presented. The approach makes sense to me and to Rebekah. I’m glad we’ve had the opportunity to review these products!
