Human nature seems to lend itself to the game of comparison. We compare our abilities, talents and circumstances to others around us. The worst part of this comparison is that no two situations are the same. While someone may look like they have it “all together,” they may in fact be really struggling with some area of their life. How does this apply to homeschooling?
All too often, we can compare ourselves to what we think other homeschooling parents look like. The danger of this type of comparison, is that we don’t know what areas of life the people we are comparing ourselves, to are struggling in.
When I was new to homeschooling I was guilty of this game of comparison. From a distance, it seemed like the other homeschooling moms had it all figured out. However, as I got to know them, I learned that they too felt like I did. We are all learning as we travel on this road called homeschooling.
I want to encourage you to enjoy the journey that is set before you. Know that you will have good days and there will be not so good days. The important part is that we strive to make it the best that we can for our family. We can’t allow ourselves to get caught up in the comparison game.
I have found that having friends that are like minded homeschooling parents has been such an encouragement to me. These friendships have allowed me the opportunity to learn from them and also to be encouraged by them. I hope that, in return, I am able to encourage others on this journey.

The comparison game is a dangerous one, but I think we all play it at some time, until we learn that we can get good ideas and encouragement from other homeschoolers without always comparing. Great post!
