I have been a little slow getting posts up this month because we have been in the process of trying to get moved to our new farm. It has been quite a job to get fences and waterers ready so that we can move all the livestock. On top of that there has been the normal cleaning and prepping the house so we can move in.
One of the delays was a leak in a water line. The previous owner had switched all the livestock waterers to rural water instead of pond water. He had told us that the water district had notified him that there was a leak somewhere but he had not found where yet.
This past week we discovered the area where the leak was surfacing. We hired a track hoe operator to dig the area up. As is often the case with a water leak, it wasn’t coming up directly over the actual leak; however we were in the right area. The track hoe operator kept digging until we felt like we were in the right spot. With very little digging by Scott using the shovel and the leak was exposed.
We turned off the water and plugged the line that was the source of the leak since it was an old line that was no longer serving a purpose.
It is such a relief to have the leak located and repaired so that our water bill won’t be unnecessarily high. We are on the waiting list for a local plumber to come and install a pump and pressure tank so that we can get water from a large pond on the farm. It will be so nice to be able to water the livestock from the pond!
