Our Farm: Planting Elderberries

I ordered elderberries from the Missouri Department of Conservation as part of my seedling tree order that I placed late last fall.  The elderberries, along with the pawpaws and pecans, arrived recently.  (Last year I had also ordered some elderberries from MDC and they had grown so much in a year’s time they were too big to try to transplant.)  I was able to get the elderberries planted a few days later right before it rained for two days.

Elderberries

The elderberries had started to leaf out, when we received them, so care had to be taken not to break off these tender leaf shoots.

FishFlix.com: Captive ~ Review

Recently, I had the opportunity to review the movie Captive (on DVD) provided by FishFlix.com.  FishFlix.com was started by Dr. Enis Sakirgil, a Turkish Christian, over a decade ago when he was working on the movie – Apostle Paul and the Earliest Churches.  The film was made with Christians in the West in mind teaching them about the biblical history in the country of Turkey.

FishFlix.com Review

Later when Dr. Sakirgil and his family immigrated to the United States, he began selling the movie over the internet.  Soon he expanded into selling other Christian Movies, giving birth to FishFlix.com.

FishFlix.com is based in Mora, Minnesota.  The company goal is to “glorify God by providing Amazing Customer Service, Unbelievable Prices and Great Variety for Christian Movie Fans.”   They continue to partner with Christian ministries in Turkey to help spread the gospel in one of the world’s most unreached regions.

Captive: Based on an Inspiring True Story

We are introduced to two lives that seem very independent of one another at the beginning of the film; soon, however, these two lives collide.   After being convicted of rape and sentenced to jail time, Brian Nichols escapes police custody by brutally beating a female officer.  He then takes the officer’s gun and shoots others as he is escaping.  While on the run, he takes Ashley Smith hostage in her own home.

Encore Day at the Home Grown Food Summit

Today is the last day to watch the Encore Videos of the Home Grown Food Summit, however you can have instant access to the entire Home Grown Food Summit by purchasing a Lifetime Pass. I just purchased mine because there are several talks that I want to refer back to.

Adisyn loved learning about Victory Gardens from Loretta Craig. I found the Natural and Treatment-Free Beekeeping talk by Jacqueline Freeman interesting as well. (You can even listen to this one today as it is one of the encore presentations!)  There are presentations on a wide variety of subjects from growing garlic and onions to extreme composting to raising goats to raising herbs and many, many other topics.

Blessings,

Jennifer

Adding Berries to Our Farm

One of the things I really want to get established on our farm are a variety of berries, fruits and nuts.  We were able to transplant the currants here in November and it appears that most of them have survived the transplant as they have developed buds.  At the same time, we transplanted the grapes but, so far, I am unable to tell how many of them survived.

Currants

I also want to get strawberries, elderberries, blackberries, raspberries and blueberries established. In order to stretch our garden budget as far as possible, I have taken advantage of sales from various nurseries so our berry plants are actually coming from three different sources.
