Hallo! Wie geht’s dir? (Hello! How are you?) The one foreign language that has Mr. B the most intrigued is German and thanks to Middlebury Interactive Languages he is getting to take their High School German I course.  For this review, we received access to German I the self-paced, immersive course for one year.

Middlebury Interactive Language German introduces high school students to the German language through four key areas of language study: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The lessons contain thematic vocabulary and grammar in a conversational context. The student also learns about different cultural practices and perspectives in German-speaking countries. Throughout the lessons there are frequent assessments that help to monitor the student’s language growth.

Mr. B has found the High School German I class quite challenging but enjoyable. He strives for perfection, so he has been moving slower through the course than the suggested calendar provided in German I. The great news is that Middlebury Interactive is set up so that you can progress at your speed. Honestly, I am okay with him taking his time as I feel that he will have a better retention if he is truly interested (which he is) and if he strives for perfection. Now if I just knew German so I could converse with him…Wouldn’t that be fun?!

I really like the way the lessons are set up with plenty of practice saying and reading the words, in addition to, hearing them in conversation. In the Gradebook section, the scores to his quizzes and tests are automatically recorded. This works well for providing a written record of his progress. I would certainly recommend Middlebury Interactive Languages to other homeschoolers as a great way to provide foreign language education to their students. It would also work well for students who would like to learn a language that their public or private school doesn’t provide.

Being on the Homeschool Review Crew

I really can’t believe that our second year on the Homeschool Review Crew is coming to an end!! We have been so blessed to be a part of this group. We’ve been introduced to and loved curriculum that I never even knew existed.

The audio adventures from Heirloom Audio Productions and Star Toaster are just a couple of examples that fall into to the “never knew they existed and now we love them” category.

There have been so many other great products that we’ve been able to review. I hope to have the kids vote on their favorites so I can let you know which ones they think are tops.

One thing is for sure, our homeschool has certainly benefited from our time on the Homeschool Review Crew!!

What being on the Crew means ...

Would you like to have the opportunity to become part of the Homeschool Review Crew?

Online Christian Filmmakers Academy ~ Review

The kids, especially Mr B, have long been interested in making short films. They have been known to “steal” my phone or camera and make videos. So when he heard that we were going to be able to review Online Christian Filmmakers Academy by Family Gravity Media, a division of Families For Christ Ministries, Inc., he was ecstatic.

Online Christian Filmmakers Academy is the online course that father-son team, Ken and Zack Lawrence developed to train up Christian filmmakers. They have been working together since 2004. Some of the projects they have completed include the feature film In His Steps, TV series Welcome Home Antelope Valley, DVD releases The Pastor’s House, Father-Child Projects, The Courtship Formula documentary, and many short films.

In addition to being a certified Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructor in Audio/Video & film; Ken is also a pastor, author, actor, Christian film producer and homeschool father of four.

Zack wrote, produced and directed the feature film In His Steps based on the Christian classic by Charles Sheldon during 2012 and 2013. He also produced the Indy Christian Series which ran online for 100 episodes.

Together Ken and Zack operate the Rocky Mountain Christian Filmmakers camp (since 2007) and the Online Christian Filmmakers Academy (since 2012) Continue reading
