Farm Bureau Fall Farm Tour

During the months of September and October, Missouri Farm Bureau made it possible for some of the members of the Missouri Women Bloggers to tour some Missouri farms.  I was blessed to be one of the six women bloggers that attended the September tour in the Kansas City area.

It was so fun to meet some of the other members of Missouri Women Bloggers (and spend the day with a longtime friend, Laurie from Country LINKed).

Our first stop was the Moreland Family Dairy Farm in Harrisonville, MO where Mike, Jay and Matt Moreland were very gracious hosts!

I have always been fond of dairy farms.  When I was younger, my aunt and uncle had a dairy farm that I enjoyed visiting.

The Ultimate Schoolhouse Planner ~ Review

This review of  The Ultimate Homeschool Planner – Blue Cover comes to  you compliments Apologia Educational Ministries.  Although I was randomly assigned the blue cover, this is my favorite of the three available covers.

Apologia Educational Ministries
The mission of Apologia Educational Ministries is to publish curriculum and resources and provide services that help homeschooling students and families learn, live, and defend the Christian faith.

The Ultimate Homeschool Planner is based on the planning system by veteran homeschooler, Debra Bell.  This planner features plastic front and back covers.  I can assure you this is a durable cover as I have not only used it here at the house but have also taken it with me several times to be able to plan while away from home; and it still looks brand new.  There are also pockets on the inside of both covers. IEW: Phonetic Zoo Spelling ~ Review

Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) has provided us with another fantastic product to review!  We received the Phonetic Zoo Spelling Level A [Starter Set] which contains:

  • 5 Audio CDs (and MP3 downloads)
  • Lesson Cards which have Levels A, B and C on each card
  • Personnel Spelling Cards which help to keep track of student’s typical misspellings
  • Zoo Cards that have the practice jingle and can be used as rewards
  • Phonetic Zoo Teacher’s Notes as a downloadable PDF
  • Spelling and the Brain video seminar (this is a link to streaming video)

The goal for the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) is to teach children the skills they need to communicate confidently and effectively.  This includes writing well, thinking clearly, and expressing themselves eloquently and persuasively.

IEW Phonetic Zoo Earlier this year, I was able to review IEW’s Deluxe Combo Writing Package A, which was my first experience using IEW.  If you haven’t read that review yet, be sure to check it out. Our experience with Phonetic Zoo was much like the experience we had with the Writing Package.  Phonetic Zoo has been such a good fit for the kids.  They can progress through at their pace as it encourages mastery.  To progress from one lesson to the next the student needs to get 100% on their spelling test twice in a row.  There are forty-seven lessons in Phonetic Zoo.  If a student completes one lesson per week he/she will finish the level in one year.  For other students it will last longer, which is fine, since the goal is mastery. A Successful First Duck Hunt

Brock and Adisyn were able to participate in an adult mentored/youth duck hunt today.  They had a wonderful guide and a fantastic time.  I can safely say they are hooked on duck hunting!

Brock shot four ducks; however, the one of the ducks dropped into cattails and after much searching even the dog couldn’t find it.  He was disappointed for sure! Adisyn shot three ducks with one shot!  They have been so excited to tell of their first duck hunting experience.
