Books of the Bible At-a-Glance ~ Review

Have you wanted to have a way to teach all the books of the Bible to your family or Sunday School class? We’ve been reviewing a product from Teach Sunday School allows us to take a look at all the Books of the Bible At-a-Glance.

Many Sunday school curriculums, especially for elementary and middle school age children, hit the “famous” stories of the Bible without much context of what was happening before or after that particular story. For instance, Children are taught about Moses rescuing the Israelites from Egypt but many times don’t know how or why they were even in Egypt. What if there was a way to teach/learn the Bible so that the stories would be taught in the context in which they happened. By having a better understanding of the context of the story, there is far less confession on the timeline of events. Young Bible scholars would be able to understand that some of the characters in the Bible lived 1,000 years or more apart.

How Have We Used it and What Do We Think?

We have been using Books of the Bible At-a-Glance as a stand alone product. (However, it would be easy to use Books of the Bible AAG alongside another curriculum.) I printed off the pages and slid them in page protectors in a 3-ring binder. This way the pages should be able to withstand many years of turning and flipping.

The other thing that would help visual learners would be to add a wall timeline that you mark as you study the Bible. The AAG pages lend themself well to adding a wall timeline as they tell what time period is covered in each Book respectively.

I really like the setup of the Books of the Bible At-a-Glance! Since each book of the Bible is represented per page it’s to truly see the big picture at a glance. The AAG pages each have if the book is in the Old Testament or New Testament, who authored it,when it was written and what time period it covered. Let’s look at Genesis.

Written by Moses in 1430 BC, Genesis is the first book of the Old Testatment. Genesis covers the longest span of time of any of the Bible books. “Genesis can be broken down into two parts:

  1. Prehistory contains everything from Genesis 1 to 12, or everything until the birth of Father Abraham. The first  part includes creation, the Great Flood and the Tower of Babel.
  2. From Genesis 12 to 50 is the story of the patriarchs. They include Abraham, his son Isaac and Isaac’s son Jacob. jacob was also the father of Joseph, who is not considered a patriarch but is very important. These men make up the start of the national of Israel.”

We’ve found  Books of the Bible At-a-Glance to be very useful!
