Forensic Faith for Kids ~ Review

We’ve been reading Forensic Faith for Kids as a read aloud thanks to David C Cook and Case Makers Academy. Foresnsic Faith is written by “cold-case” Detective J. Warner Wallace and his wife, Susie. His own personal investigation into whether or not the Bible was telling the truth about who Jesus was, he became a Christian. Now he seeks to share the truth he “discovered” with everyone he can.

In Forensic Faith, we follow Jason, Daniel and Hannah to solve a new case of the adorable Corgi pup, Bailey, that just appears out of no where during the baseball carwash that Jason and Daniel were helping with. They are also working to solve the case of sharing their faith with Hannah’s friend, Tiana and her new friend Marco.  Marco had read a book that said that Jesus wasn’t God that He was just a good man. This made Tiana start to question all that she has been taught about the Bible and Jesus.

Detective Jeffries helps the kids to learn important aspects of being a detective such as gathering evidence, being a good communicator, and that just because someone wrote something and it was published, it isn’t necessarly true.

After reading Forensic Faith, preteens and teens should feel more equipped to share their faith with others. They are given the investigative tools to dig into the Bible and understand the truths for themselves so that they can, in turn, share them with others.

In addition to receiving and reading Forensic Faith, we have had the opportunity to explore Case Makers Academy. The academy correlates with the book and gives the kids an opportunity to further develop the lessons they learn when reading the book in a fun engaging way.

How Did We Use it and What Did We Think?

When we first got the book, I initially thought I would have the older kids read it. However, after struggling to get them on board with another reading assignment, I decided to read it aloud to the “middles.” This was a much better plan for our family. They seemed to enjoy having it read to them. The book is well written and provides some great tactics for finding evidence and being able to present it to others.  I like the life lessons that are included, but especially appreciate that they talk about God always answering prayers.

“God always answers prayers,” replies Detective Jeffries, “But the answer isn’t always ‘Yes”. Sometimes it’s ‘No,’ and sometimes it’s ‘Not yet’.”

They also used the analogy of playing baseball which helps teach the point that we don’t often “hit a homerun” when sharing our faith. Many more times it takes an entire team to score a run and lead someone to salvation. This is helpful for all of us to remember for sure!

We have enjoyed reading Forensic Faith for Kids as a family and better equipping us all to share about the love of Jesus and the truth of the Bible.
